Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We can rotate an image of an object continuously in mind. The process is named mental rotation. It has been shown that rotating an image repeatedly improves mental rotation of the image, which is considered to be object-dependent learning effect. In the present study, we examined the direction dependency of the learning effect. As a result, repeating mental rotation of an image in one direction did not improve the rotation of the image in the other direction as much as that improved the rotation in the same direction. In addition, the direction-dependent learning effect disappeared when rotating the image in both directions alternately in a block of trials. We try to relate the direction-dependent learning effect to the mechanism of mental rotation.
