Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs) are reference for a chemical or its final metabolite in the biological specimen. BEIs can give guidelines for diagnosis of occupational illnesses and for the evaluation of potential health hazards. Among them, urine hippuric acid (HA), the final metabolites of toluene is considered as the BEIs of toluene exposure for workers using toluene. In this study, we attempted to develop a brief measurement of HA solution by using near-infrared spectroscopy. As the first step, artificial urines conditioned by adding urea to HA solutions were measured and analyzed. The solvents are optically measured within near infrared region (750-2500nm) obtaining optical absorption for obtaining differential absorbance from pure water. As a result, spectral peaks derived from HA clearly obtained even with urea. This result suggests that a brief urine constituents measurement using near-infrared spectroscopy can be developed. |
