Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Visually impaired and blind people need certain support in travelling unfamiliar places. Information technology has been utilised for the travel support in actual situations. In this report, we discuss the generation of guide messages for the blind travellers and the navigation service that does not use any positioning technologies. A traveller listens to the messages with the use of a portable daisy player (PTP1), and utilises it together with other environmental signals and cues during the travel. We have conducted travel experiment with a blind female. We point out certain issues to be thoroughly discussed in designing effective navigation messages for this kind of service.
