Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Pedestrian traffic flow analysis in a wide area can be useful for various applications such as public space design and crowd behavior management to prevent congestion-related accidents. We propose a pedestrian traffic flow analysis method for wide areas such as shopping malls, stations, and universities, where many cameras are sparsely distributed. Focusing on the fact that people usually walk in groups in such areas, the proposed method analyzes the pedestrian traffic flows by matching the pedestrian groups observed by different cameras. The pedestrian groups are matched by considering the group merging and splitting and by focusing on rarely appeared colors. Experimental results for videos captured in our university campus have demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed method.
