Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Gradient feature extraction method, which is one of the directional feature extraction methods of character strokes, has been proved to be very efficient in various character recognition experiments, and is widely used in character recognition systems. To further enhance discrimination performance of gradient feature, curvature feature has been proposed, and is proved to be effective in handwritten character recognition. Generally, feature extraction operation is applied normalized images. However, features extracted from normalized images are distorted when normalization operation largely deforms character shapes. In order to reduce this distortion, normalization-cooperated feature extraction methods, which extracts features from the original image, have been proposed for directional features such as chaincode features and gradient features. In this research, we propose a normalization-cooperated curvature feature extraction methods which applies normalization-cooperated feature extraction strategy to a curvature feature extraction method. In printed character recognition experiments, the proposed methods were effective especially for normalization methods that largely deform character shapes. |
