Yakushima, world heritage, and value of its multiplicity

Abstract(in English) This paper outlines Yskushima where forest with about 10,000 hectare, i.e., about 20% of its island including seashore and mountains, has been registered as the natural world heritage. First, the overview of Yakushima is summarized, and the vertical distribution of Yakushima nature is described. Although the seashore in Yakushima is evergreen forest, the nature of Yakushima shows diversity as the altitude increases. Yakusugi forest and green field spread at high altitude. Next, the geographical characteristics of Yakushima are shown from the viewpoint of load on sea, and the industry using the multiplicity of nature and plenty of water is explained. Finally, the landscape of mountain, village, and sea is described.
