Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) plans to conduct a demonstration mission of an extravehicular activity (EVA) support robot in the Japanese Experimental Module Exposed Facility (JEM/KIBO) of International Space Station. In this mission, JAXA will conduct several experiments about functions and abilities required for such EVA support robots, including an experiment of operating a tether hook and attaching it to a handrail by two-fingered robotic hand, for the purpose of demonstrating a locomotion method which is necessary for the EVA support robots. In this paper, we report the robot experiment system which is ready for the launch in 2012, in particular the robotic hand.
