Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Table talks between family and among close friends play important roles in human communications. This paper clarifies contributions of table talks by analyzing dialog-act structures and gaze behaviors during conversations. For analyzing video recorded data of table talks and normal conversations, we have transcribed participants' utterances and gazes. Then we labeled each utterance with dialog act tag and extract the frequencies of the dialog act tags and those of the adjacent tag pairs. The analyses show that (1) table talk participants give less new topics and less additional information than normal conversation ones, and that (2) table talks go on slowly where hearers respond by "response" utterance between two substantial utterances. In addition, the participants in table talks gaze more to foods than to participants. The analysis suggests that in table talk communications participants are expected to contribute to successions of conversation rather than substantial utterance and that the conversations tend to be slow and relax.
