Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Spacecraft charging occurs owing to the accumulation of incoming flux of space plasma to the spacecraft surface. In the worst case, spacecraft can suffer from total damage caused by discharge. Active plasma emission from a thruster for propulsion and attitude control as well as the potential difference in solar panels for the power supply also can influence the spacecraft plasma environment including the spacecraft itself. The influence will become an issue when we use the electric power and voltage much larger than those currently used for spacecraft system. However, it is almost impossible to evaluate the influence quantitatively by using a simple formulation. In such a situation, computer simulation using supercomputer becomes a power tool for the analysis of the interactions between spacecraft and space plasma. We will briefly introduce a simulation method using Particle-In-Cell model followed by some examples of simulation on spacecraft-plasma interactions such as spacecraft charging and plasma influence on electric antenna onboard satellite.
