Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A bird monitoring system in this study is composed of wireless IC tags (bird-tags), base stations and a data center. Location information of birds is periodically acquired using GPS receiver system in a bird-tag, transmitted to the base stations and stored in the data center. To receive location information from a bird-tag, base stations are located near the area in which birds live. Base stations are thus usually located far from a data center. In such case, it is difficult to often visit base stations when technical problems are found. It is thus necessary to configure a reliable system which can be remotely monitored. In this paper, system design and management principles and the necessary management functionalities of the bird monitoring system are described based on the experiences of developing a prototype of this system.
