Buffered-Packets Releasing Method in Network-based Seamless Handoff for Wireless LAN

Abstract(in English) The seamless handoff technique which keeps the communication of mobile terminals prevents the packet loss by buffering user data packets which is forwarded from the previous mobile access gateway (MAG) to which the MT has been attached, to the new MAG while the MT makes a handover. When the shared wireless access technology (e.g., IEEE 802.11) is employed as the access network in the mobile network, the released packets from the buffer space of the MAG degrades the communication quality for the other MTs (residential MTs) which have already been attached to the wireless networks. In this paper, adopting Proxy Fast Mobile IPv6 which has been standardized and provide the network-based seamless handoff, we propose the novel traffic control method which controls both the traffic into the residential MTs and the buffered packets in MAG in order to prevent the degradation of the communication quality. Using the packet-based simulation, we investigate the affection of the delay characteristics which is given by the released packets from the buffer space of the MAG and show the validness of the proposed method.
