Approach at Campus Network to Reduction of Equipment Energy and Management Task

Abstract(in English) This paper describes about reduction of equipment management task and energy used by network switches. We measured electric currents used by each network switches in the university. We replaced all network backbone switches and electric currents are less than before. Thus we satisfy both of electric currents cut-down and backbone network speed-up. It is time-consuming and troublesome task to manage lot of network switches. We are using new utility software after the replacement. The new product must replace the firmware sometimes. We updated firmware of all network switches through the utility software and measured the working time. The parallel update task using utility software was able to shorten in particular time in comparison with the serial update task very much.
