Abstract(in English) It is feared that the energy consumption of network equipments might increase terribly because of the growth of the network traffic in the near future. Especially, a large-scale router connected with many high speed lines in a network of carriers consumes high energy to process high speed electric signals, and it is necessary to make a technical breakthrough to restrict its energy consumption. For that purpose we study an optical backplane applied optoelectronics technologies to realize a high speed and energy saving router. It's because a backplane is one of the large components inside a router and many high speed signals pass through it. In this paper we describe the prototype of a very small optical I/O module that is based on 100Gbps Ethernet technology and is the most important device for an optical backplane, some topics of implementing a router with an optical backplane and its prototype.
