Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is recently being required to green network equipments in the Internet. In accordance with this requirements, Adaptive Link Rate (ALR) has been proposed, which reduce power consumption on links between two network equipments by dynamically changing a link speed based upon offered-load. However, recent researches report that ALR cannot avoid arrival delays and losses of packets because it takes much longer time to change link speed. In this paper, we present the new make-before-break method for ALR that achieves dynamically changing a link speed with fewer arrival delays and losses of packets. The proposed method assumes that there are several links between two network equipments and each link is con figured to be a different link speed from other links. These network equipments then usually use only one link and the others are shut down. When offered-load increases or decreases enough to need to change the link speed, these equipments autonomously set up another link with required link speed. After another link becomes ready, these equipments switch over packet transmissions from old link to another link. After waiting for all packets queued in transmission queues of old link to be transmitted, these equipments then shut down old link. As described above, the proposed method tries to avoid arrival delays and losses of packets.
