Discrimination of space-division-multiplexing millimeter-wave signals using antenna-coupled-electrode optical modulator with polarization reversal

Abstract(in English) We propose an antenna-coupled-electrode optical modulator with polarization reversal which discriminates space-division-multiplexing millimeter-wave signals. The antenna-coupled-electrode is composed of a microstrip-patch-antenna and a resonant-electrode based on a parallel coupled microstrip-line with shorted ends. This modulator has an array of the antenna-coupled-electrodes and several channel optical waveguides. Each waveguide has different polarization reversal structures. The modulation characteristic depends on the irradiation angle and its directivity can be changed by using polarization reversal structures. Therefore, it is possible to discriminate the millimeter-wave signals coming from different direction and convert them to the corresponding optical signals selectively. That is, space-multiplexing millimeter-wave signals can be discriminated. In this paper, we report on details about the principle of operation, the analysis, and the experiment.
