Abstract(in English) We present a 180-km transmission of 10-Gbit/s NRZ signal using a dual-modulated EA-DFB laser. The dual modulation of EA-DFB laser involves simultaneously driving an electro-absorption modulator and a directly-modulated DFB-LD with DATA and DATA-BAR signals, which outputs an intensity-modulated signal with frequency modulation (FM). There have been no reports on the transmission of high-order PRBS signal because the long bit sequences degrade the FM efficiency of DFB-LDs. We employ a buried heterostructure EA-DFB with a short-cavity DFB-LD to obtain stable frequency deviation over the entire frequency range of a long PRBS, resulting in error-free, non-dispersion compensated transmission with PRBS of 2^<31->1.
