Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Animals perform various behavior according to the integration of information from the outside world. Information from the world is often masked with noise, therefore the brain must process such unreliable information. The problem of how does the robust processing is carried out in the brain is the fundamental issues for the study of neuroscience. To approach such problem, we investigate the effects of noise in visual stimulus on motion detection in Drosophila melanogaster. We observed the optomotor response to the stimulus including noise as an index of motion detection. In addition, we calculated a response of the classical elementary motion detector (EMD) model and compared fly responses to the EMD model. We showed that when the noise exceed a certain level the response reduce adruptly, while in the case of EMD model, the response gradualy reduce. And we found that the presence of the fly which showed the more stable response to the stimulus with noise than that without noise. Taken together, we suggest that the feedback to visual system from the central brain exist in Drosophila.
