Traffic Control of Virtual Machine using Flow-based Analysis

Abstract(in English) A virtual machine hosting service, the new domain of Virtualization Technology, is attracted attention as Cloud Computing. In such a service, virtual machines of various users are deployed on a same physical host and they share that physical resource. It enables the service providers to offer computer resources efficiently for users. However, they may not be able to guarantee performance of the virtual machines due to resource conflict between different users. We focus especially on traffic congestion of virtual machine communications that decrease network performance on a physical path. In order to deal with the issue, providers must specify the causal virtual machine by traffic monitoring and then control the traffic of it. However, common traffic monitoring methods for physical environment presents traffic of a virtual machine including inter-virtual-machine traffic, which is not a communication via a physical path. So the physical network resource utilization of each virtual machine can not be estimated and controlled exactly. In this paper, we present the flow-based monitoring method for virtual machine traffic by communication paths.
