Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents encoding methods to synchronously compresses and decompress multiple data-streams of floating-point numbers in order to enhance memory bandwidth of stream computation. The compressors compress the multiple data in parallel and send the compressed data to the decompresses through a single channel. When the data streams have different compression ratios, streams with low compression ratios have to be sent with a higher priority than the others for synchronization among the streams. In our encoding methods, the synchronous decompression is achieved without extra information in addition to the compressed data We show the hardware mechanisms for the proposed methods, and demonstrate that they work correctly by using software emulation. We also evaluate a necessary size of FIFOs to temporally store the data to be sent into the single channel.
