Prototyping and Evaluation of Out-of-band Pilot Channel Mechanism for Spectrum Sharing Type Cognitive Radio System

Abstract(in English) Cognitive terminals of spectrum sharing type cognitive radio systems need to execute sensing to find out the information on operating base stations such as frequency and communication parameters because the information is not directly notified to the cognitive terminals. The wider the potential frequency range of the base stations is, the longer time the cognitive terminals require for sensing, which makes it difficult to handover radio systems timely or to start communication quickly after terminals' power on. Those problems are expected to be solved once the spectrum sharing type cognitive radio system is equipped with out-of-band pilot channel mechanism to notify the cognitive terminals of the information. In this paper, we take detailed processing time of the prototype systems and calculate the affects to the success rate of the wide-area signaling. It is proved that reconfiguration time of the cognitive terminals is shortened by the out-of-band pilot channel and that there is no significant concern to deploy the signaling mechanism in wide areas.
