Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, cognitive radio technology that enables to detect spatial and temporal "holes" in spectrum and then to allocate those unused portions to communicating entities dynamically on a secondary usage basis has attracted much attention as a way of increasing spectrum utilization ratio. In the near future, multiple nodes with cognitive radio capability will be connected to each other, and they will construct a cognitive radio network. In this paper, we first focus on multi-hop communication over the cognitive radio network, and then discuss how the spatial and temporal changes in communication channel at each hop affect the upper layers such as network layer and transport layer of TCP/IP protocol stack. After that, with these considerations, we clarify the research challenges of each layer and finally discuss the cross-layer approach that introduces collaborative operation between the upper layers and appropriate information obtained from the lower layers.
