Hierarchal Predefined Codebook for High-Frequency Component Estimation and Its Application to Image Enlargement

Abstract(in English) A high-quality image enlargement is achieved by an estimation of high-frequency components. We have proposed a pre-defined codebook, which consists of a relationship of high- and low-frequency image components, for the high-quality image enlargement method. In this paper, we propose a hierarchal predefined codebook which achieves a fast calculation, a hardware area reduction and a high-quality image enlargement. In the proposed method, we generate a 3-layered hierarchal structured codebook from predefined 1,904 code words. Experimental results show that the proposed method is 40 times faster than the ordinary method, without an image degradation. We also show a possibility of hardware implementation of the proposed method based on the experimental result.
