Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a detection and tracking method of oncoming and forward vehicles based on phase only correlation (POC) method from video sequences captured by an in-vehicle single camera. The detection of the forward vehicle is achieved by finding the low intensity region such as the window of the vehicle or the shadow on the ground beneath the vehicle. The sub-pixel motion estimation by the peak evaluation formula (PEF) based on the POC method is applied to the calculation of motion vectors. The improvement of the detection precision by this method makes the detection of the vehicle at the farther position possible. In addition, to detect plural oncoming vehicles, the size estimation method for the detected vehicles is proposed. The size estimation can reduce the disturbance by the detected vehicles to the calculation of the motion vectors and it makes the detection of the motion vectors related to the undetected vehicles easy. The experimental result shows the effectiveness and the possibility of the real-time processing of the proposed method.
