Estimation of Sending Rate of DCGP CCID3 Flows based on Arrival Interval of Probe Packets on WLANs : Measurement in real environments with IEEE802.11g

Abstract(in English) When a mobile host transmitting video streaming traffic using DCCP CCID3 moves between two wireless LAN access points where their congestion situations are different, it is difficult to quickly change the transmission rate according to the change of communication environment because of the control of sending rate depends on feedback information. To solve this problem, we have proposed a predictive rate control mechanism for real time video streaming traffic on hand over and have been discussing suitable rate estimation schemes for this mechanism. We have confirmed that the sending rate can be estimated with 25% relative error from jitter of probe packets which are sent periodically to the wireless network in IEEE802.11b wireless networks. In this paper, we validate this estimation scheme in IEEE802.11g wireless network. The experiment results revealed that the sending rate can be estimated with 38% relative error from the jitter of probe packets by best suited parameter. This estimation value can be indication of sending rate after HO.
