Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is known that a CW light which is phase-modulated with a sinusoidal signal with a frequency of f_m is converted into an intensity-modulated light with a frequency of f_m by the group velocity dispersion (GVD) of a device. However the light becomes CW again when f_m is equal to √N times of a specified frequency f_. We have proposed a GVD measurement method (sinusoidal phase modulation method) which utilizes this phenomenon. In this report we describe the effect of higher-order dispersion on this measurement method. We show that third-order dispersion converts the sinusoidally phase-modulated CW light with a modulation frequency f_m into an intensity-modulated light with a modulation frequency of 2f_m. Moreover, we also show that this phenomenon does not affect the GVD measurement with the sinusoidal phase modulation method.
