Abstract(in English) | With the aim of application to non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of electric power equipments with Y-based superconducting tapes or coated conductors, we examined NDE of multilayer parallel conductors using an eddy current method based on high-temperature superconducting SQUID gradiometer. As test samples having structures close to the superconducting power equipments, we fabricated multilayer parallel conductors consisting of two parallel conductor layers of 5 or 10 mm wide, 70μm thick copper tapes and 5 or 10 mm thick intermediate insulating layer, and tried to detect a tape break in the lower parallel conductor. For the case of 10 mm wide copper tapes which are much wider than pickup coils of the gradiometer, the two-dimensional image of detected signals became rather complicated due to periodic signals from the upper parallel conductor layer. By analyzing the profiles of SQUID signals, we successfully detected a tape break in the lower layer below the upper parallel conductor layer and 10 mm thick insulating layer. On the other hand, we could not detect a break in a 5 mm wide copper tape of the lower parallel conductor, possibly due to insufficient amount of eddy current generated by a double-D induction coil. |
