Abstract(in English) Bit patterned medium (BPM) recording is widely studied as a future perpendicular magnetic recording technology. Only small pieces of medium samples are available in most cases. For evaluating the read-write characteristics, a static tester is useful to measure such a small area of BPM. We have prepared the tester for making possible measurements with write synchronization mode. In this report, experimental results of write-margin measurements of the BPM are presented. A position margin of 50~57% of the dot period was confirmed, and we found the margin loss is related to formation of multi-domain dot.
