Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, social activities have been rapidly shifting into networked environment, and therefore several types of online communities have been formed. For leading online communities to success, it is essential for community administrators (e.g., administrators, managers, and facilitators) to adequately know the current state of online communities. In this paper, we propose a method for inferring leadership in online community using topological structure of its social network. In this paper, we also evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed method for inferring leadership in online community through experiments utilizing log data of activities in SourceFoge, which is one of major forums for online development communities. Consequently, we show that (1) leadership of participants can be inferred from betweenness centrality, and (2) there exists significant positive correlation between inferred leadership in online communities and software status and productivity. Thus, our proposed method is effective for inferring current state of online communities.
