Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since virtualization is the underlying technology in cloud computing, the traditional tasks of managing servers need to be revisited in order to cope with the emerging demands in management. In this paper, we re-examine the increasing important management concept of naming and addressing. Though these principles are already matured in networking, operating systems and telecommunications, their adaptation in cloud computing are still relatively infant. We begin by summarizing the necessity of naming and addressing as the fundamental elements of cloud computing management, and identify the lessons to be learned from other areas. We highlight a few possible naming and addressing applications as an approach to improve the cloud computing management architecture with respect to (1) effective identification and location of a VM, (2) effective resource allocation, and (3) dynamic resource optimization.
