Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed a web-based Graphical Leaner Interface (GLI) for learning languages with video teaching materials on the distributed collaborative learning environment. Learners study languages while seeing the movies in three modes, an individualized learning, an interactive learning and a collaborative learning. In the individualized learning, learners can monitor other learner's progress on learning in real time and communicate with other learners by the chat system. Both the interactive and collaborative learning are small-group learning. The teacher groups learners into several types by reference to the progress on the individualized learning. As soon as a learner adds into the group, the learner's learning mode changes into the collaborative learning from individualized learning. In the collaborative mode, all the operation screens of the group move in synchronization. When the grope wants interactive learning, a member switches the mode from the collaborative learning to the interactive learning. In the interactive mode, the operation screens don't move in synchronization and members of the group can monitor each other's result of translation and progress on learning.
