Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study, we developed a sound tactile interface that makes use of the human sensation of hardness. The interface comprises eight elastic objects having varying degrees of hardness. Each elastic object is shaped like a column. When a teacher or a child presses each elastic object, different funny sounds are produced depending on the hardness of the elastic object. The types of sounds used were "Do Re Mi sounds" and "Animal call sounds." We can switch between sound modes using a wireless remote control. The interface has a major advantage in that both healthy children and handicapped children can play with it together. In this paper, we would like conference participants to experience this interface.
