Effect of Playout Buffering Time on QoE in Audiovisual and Haptic Interactive IP Communications

Abstract(in English) For audiovisual and haptic interactive IP communications, this report proposes a media-adaptive intra-stream synchronization control scheme, which uses different output methods for the three media. As an example of the proposed scheme, we apply Skipping to haptic media and playout buffering to audio and video. For comparison, we also deal with two other schemes: Skipping for all the media and playout buffering for all the media. We investigate the effect of playout buffering time on QoE in a multidimensional way by the SD method. For subjective experiment, we designed a task which is performed by two subjects so as to play an equal role. We made the experiment with various values of playout buffering time under two network conditons: loaded and unloaded. As a result, we showed that we can achive high QoE by using the proposed scheme with appropriate playout buffering time.
