Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Although end-to-end performance has long been recognized as an important topic in QoS research, little is currently solidified in form of NGN, IETF, and other standards. Most standards provide weak guidelines for measuring and maintaining end-to-end performance and even weaker guidance in implementation. This paper summarizes major network artifacts affecting performance and elaborates on measurement and maintenance challenges in the area. The main focus is on Terminal Equipment (TE), directionality problem, and performance modelling.
