Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In optical communication systems which has over 40Gb/s transmission speeds, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) becomes a limiting factor for high speed. Since PMD changes temporally, we need to understand the changes to design optimal PMD compensation techniques. Existing PMD measurements with low measurement speed reveal slow changes of PMD, but rapid changes are unknown. Linear optical sampling is known as one of the PMD measurement with high measurement speed. The measurement characterizes a temporal waveform of probe pulse, and calculates PMD by frequency analysis. In this paper, we report that nonlinear optical effect by probe pulse affects measurement results in polarization maintaining fiber and dispersion shifted fiber.
