10.3G/1.25G dual-rate OLT optical transceiver for 10G-EPON systems

Abstract(in English) 10G-EPON is the most promising candidate for next generation optical access systems. 10G-EPON is required for co-existing with GE-PON on the same optical distribution network due to the wide-spread of GE-PON systems. Therefore, 10.3G/1.25G dual-rate OLT optical transceiver is the key device for realizing 10G-EPON systems. In this paper, we report the performances of a newly developed dual-rate optical transceiver incorporating fully optimized burst-mode AGC/ATC functions for each 10.3G/1.25G bit-rate complying with IEEE802.3av standards. 10.3G and 1.25G receiver sensitivity of as low as -30.6dBm at BER=10^<-3> and -34.6dBm at BER=10^<-12> were successfully achieved, respectively. Moreover, a high launch power of +2.6dBm and +5.3dBm were also achieved in each 10.3G and 1.25G downstream transmitters. In addition, we experimentally demonstrated the loss budget of dual-rate 10G-EPON systems adapting our developed OLT transceiver. As a result, 10.3Gb/s and 1.25Gb/s loss budget of 33.5dB and 33.8dB were achieved, respectively.
