Abstract(in English) Ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) is becoming very popular for designing high-throughput forwarding engines on routers. However, TCAM has potential problems in terms of cost of hardware and power. We have proposed the RAM-based new hardware architecture for a fast forwarding engine that looks up a route by a single access. In this report, we evaluate the hardware cost of our forwarding engine by chip area. From the evaluation results, we confirm the optimal parameter which minimizes the hardware cost.
