Influence of Audience in Speaking Activity in Foreign Language

Abstract(in English) It is not easy to allocate enough time for pronunciation practice and give some feedback to each student due to time constraints in language classrooms. Then, students don't have the time for self-reflection and in some cases, fossilization occurs. Though speaking inherently needs audience, few students are good at speaking in front of others. Even students who can speak to a computer in practicing foreign language, sometimes are not good at speaking in pair-works or presentation in a group work. It will be worse in the case of speaking in front of the class. As almost students get nervous even with their mother tongue, it is natural that students are not confident with expressions and pronunciation at speaking in foreign language. Peter(2007) said that performance of presentation will deteriorate when they are not confident with contents and pronunciation of their presentation. Teachers should carefully plan and arrange an activity according to students situation. We will report various activities, in which students record themselves and reflect their speaking in a foreign language, and analyze those activities from the viewpoint of the number of audience.
