A silent-failure management system for ring topologies of Ether network

Abstract(in English) In recent years, a Wide area Ethernet is used in many services, and end users require high quality on a network service on the Wide area Ethernet. Although a ring-protection protocol which is used in a transport network of SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is introduced in the Ethernet, a similar high quality cannot be offered to end users in the Wide area Ethernet because of the difference of network communication mechanisms. And a silent failure which is different from a simple network-element failure and a flame drop is occurred in the network of Ethernet, we expend much time to follow the silent failure. We have investigated in the analysis method where a result of Ether OAM is displayed on the network topology map, and found that we can smoothly find the alleged points from the detection of silent failure. And the network management system where we evaluate several different measurements and Ether OAM measurement is introduced in the network. In this paper, we introduce the mechanisms of a silent-failure management in the Wide area Ethernet, and the architecture of searching an alleged point from the results of silent-failure detection, and discuss our results.
