Abstract(in English) | In these years, internet traffic is increasing at the rate of 30 to 40% per year. To keep energy consumption of the network at a modest level, a new network such as optical path network which consumes less energy should be more widely used. Since optical path is only suitable for a large granularity traffic, a model which combines multiple schemes including the electrical packet switching and the optical path switching is required. We are developing such new network model in which traffic characteristics information such as required bandwidth is notified by the application to the network. While the information is passed to a management software called a network coordinator, the application does not have to aware of which network or routing scheme is actually used. We have developed an RSVP-based scheme to notify the characteristics of the traffic to the network coordinator. In addition, we used OpenFlow switches, which inspects packets and determines an action, to select networks. According to the information from the application, the network coordinator directs OpenFlow switches to sort out traffic and route to a designated network. We have developed a prototype system by implementing the OpenFlow switching scheme on our own FPGA-based network testbed called GtrcNet-10. Using the prototype, we have confirmed that appropriate network selection is realized, and the selection is invisible from the application. |
