Abstract(in English) In this paper the potential of airborne single baseline high resolution X band polarimetric radar interferometry (PolInSAR) data for forest parameters estimation is investigated. The PolInSAR data were acquired by East China Research Institute of Electronic Engineering, CETC, over the test site near Sanya city, Hainan Province of China with temporal baseline equaling to 0. To quantify the PolInSAR information about forest contained in X band data, some L band classical algorithms for vegetation parameters estimation, i.e. ESPRIT technique, the hybrid method of ESPRIT and three stages procedure, and RV model are applied to X band data. The results are compared with in situ measurements. The forest height retrieved by ESPRIT algorithm is 13.8m and retrieved by hybrid method is 14.9m; both of them are close to insitu measurements. The tree height is overestimated in order of 5.5m by RV model. The experiment results demonstrate that Chinese airborne X band PolInSAR data could be used to retrieve forest height.
