Abstract(in English) The VHF broadband digital interferometer (DITF) is a system to visualize the lightning channel both inside and outside thunderclouds. The DITF receives VHF impulsive EM waves from the negative leader tips and locates their sources. We conducted VHF lightning observation campaign during the '06-'07 monsoon season in Darwin, Australia. In the case of CG flashes, the negative leaders travel first about ten kilometers horizontally through positive charge regions and then begin to bend toward the ground when they reach the end edge of the positive charge regions. We suggest that positive charge regions could facilitate extending horizontal negative leader.
