Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) NICT's recent experimental achievements using experimental communication satellites of the Engineering Test Satellite VIII (ETS-VIII) for S-band mobile satellite communication and broadcasting, the Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite (WINDS) for super-high-data-rate Internet satellite communications, and the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) for navigation are overviewed. Future satellite communication projects currently under consideration such as Satellite/Terrestrial Integrated mobile Communication System (STICS), a small satellite for laser communications, global broadband mobile satellite communications, a highly-inclined orbiting satellite with communication and broadcasting capabilities as well as satellite positioning will be presented.
