Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A joystick of a conventional electric wheelchair is sometimes difficult for persons with severe disabilities to use. It is thus necessary to develop technologies that support such person's residual functional capacities, and that enable safe, comfortable, independent movement even for persons with severe disabilities. We developed intelligent powered wheelchairs which maximize what they can do using technologies; 1) advanced vision and speech interface technologies between users and powered wheelchairs, and 2) a stereo omni-directional vision technology which contributes safety to driving powered wheelchairs.
