Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is said that negative information has stronger impact than positive information on forming the first impression. In our research, we focused on the effect of the time axes of information. We assumed that if a person's past information is negative (i.e., unfaithful) and present information is positive (i.e., happily married), participants would form better impressions comparing to the opposite situation. In the main experiment, participants saw a person on a video and were asked to rate his impressions by semantic differential method. The parson's information were varied among 4 experimental conditions: The participants were given no information, only negative information, positive in past and negative at present, or negative in past and positive at present. As the result of analysis on the impression ratings, our prediction was supported on some items such as "sociable-unsociable."
