Abstract(in English) This paper reports on a preliminary evaluation of position measurement and obstacle detection techniques implemented in a navigation system for visually-impaired pedestrians that we had developed. First, we examined the capability of pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) developed originally for physically-umimpaired pedestrians for walking patterns of visually-impaired pedestrians. Secondly, setting a demonstration route at "Yaesu Chika-gai" Underground mall (indoor area) and the surrounding sidewalks (outdoor area) in Tokyo, we conducted a demonstrative experiment to compare each of positioning measurement result obtained by PDR, GPS, Wi-Fi, active RFID and image recognition, sensor fusion and route matching. As for obstacle detection, we checked how it worked, and performed a preliminary usability test.
