Iterative MMSE Detection and Interference Cancellation for Uplink SC-FDMA MIMO using HARQ

Abstract(in English) For the next generation high-speed uplink wireless communication systems, single carrier (SC)-frequency-division multiple-access (FDMA) having a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) characteristic, hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ), and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multiplexing are indispensable key techniques. As the transmit filter's roll-off factor α increases, PAPR of SC-FDMA signal reduces and increased frequency diversity gain. However, if the carrier-frequency separation among multiple-access users is kept the same as in the case of the roll-off factor α=0 (i.e., brick wall filter), the adjacent users' signal spectra overlap and the multi-user interference (MUI) is produced. In our previous work, we proposed an iterative minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection and MUI cancellation (MMSED-MUIC), which performs iteratively a series of MMSED and MUIC, for frequency-domain filtered SC-FDMA single-input single-output (SISO) uncoded uplink. In this paper, we extend our previously proposed MMSED-MUIC for uncoded SISO systems to turbo coded MIMO HARQ systems, and we propose an iterative MMSE detection and IC (MMSED-IC) for turbo coded uplink SC-FDMA MIMO using HARQ. In proposed MMSED-IC, the cancellation of just the MUI and residual inter-symbol interference (ISI) but inter-antenna interference (IAI) is performed. We evaluate the throughput performances by computer simulation and show α=1 can achieve the highest throughput performance.
