Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have investigated intensity angle dependence around the critical angle of output intensity for an optical configuration consisting of two dielectric regions of the same n>1 with a thin flat gap of air/vacuum of width d between them based on exact solution to Maxwell's equation. We have found that the output intensity is continuously varied when the incident angle varied from a smaller angle than the critical angle to a larger angle than the critical angle. We also found that for a small angle variation from the critical angle, there are gap widths where output intensities for incident angle being smaller and larger than the critical angle by the small variation angle are quite different. We propose a novel mechanism of an electro-optical modulator using such a small incident angle variation and gap width.
