Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a low energy consumption time estimation scheme for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) called LECTES. In WSN applications, drift of wireless sensor nodes' clocks is one of the most critical issues when processing data. Many researchers have been challenging this problem by proposing time synchronization protocols, such as FTSP, TPSN and RBS. LECTES does not synchronize sensor nodes' clocks, instead, it estimates the sensing time by subtracting the time taken to process data from the reception time of packets. We implemented LECTES on MAC layer of Iris mote, and confirmed that it achieves the average accuracy of 0.488μs as opposed to 1.618μs with FTSP in single hop. The evaluation results further proved that in comparison to FTSP, LECTES 1)increased sensor nodes' lifetimes by 19.8%, 2)decreased the growth of error per hop from 0.694μs to 0.256μs in a 9 hop network, and 3)decreased the compiled program size by 8,046 bytes of ROM and 452 bytes of RAM.
