抄録(和)
抄録(英) We examine the effect of non-linguistic factors (semantic properties such as animacy) and language specific factors (such as word order) on sentence production. In Experiment 1, relative clause were elicited using a picture description task that manipulated head noun animacy in English, Japanese and Korean. Speakers of all three languages produced more passive relatives with animate than inanimate heads, suggestion that a common role for non-linguistic (semantic) information during production. A language by animacy interaction suggests a role for language-specific factors as well. In Experiment 2, the role of topic status (another non-linguistic property) on structure choice is considered. Grammatical role assignment is implicated as an important step in sentence production, with language-specific patterns biasing the extent to which animate entities or topics must become grammatical subjects.
