Abstract(in English) We investigate electro-optic digital-to-analog converter (EO-DAC) that can synthesize several types of optical multilevel signals, such as nQAM and nPSK. Conventionally, optical vector IQ modulator is utilized to synthesize optical QAM, where inphase and quadrature components of optical carrier orthoganally signalled in multi-level. In this case, the analog channel between an electric digital-to-analogue converter and the vector modulator should be carefully managed keeping adequate lineality. In the EO-DAC, on the other hand, optical QAM is synthesized from electric binary data sequences, where BPSK singals are linearly superposed to form QAM. In this paper, we discuss the detail of the EO-DAC and demonstrate synthesis of 10-Gbaud 8PSK and 16QAM signals; further we discuss extension of this technique to explore higher-order signals.
